Two wild stallion mustangs are locked in battle, as the palomino stallion protects his mare from a band of bachelors. Photographed in Sand Wash Basin in northwestern Colorado, these wild horses are protected by the The Wild Horse And Burro Act of 1971. Stallions are very protective of their bands, and fights can be quite violent, but they are usually short-lived with one stallion backing down.
